In addition to helping him refine the lie-detection test, the women in Marston&#8217;s life helped him with his research on human behavior. But there was a price the Marston family had to pay for their unconventional ideas: the Professor and his wife were both banished from academic life, leaving at risk the financial life of their research and their own livelihood.
