After six years fronting the band As Baías, with which she was nominated twice for the Latin Grammy and received two Brazilian Music Awards, the artist debuted as a solo artist in December 2021. Among the songs that make up the repertoire of “My Voice and I” show are the first two singles released by Assucena in this new phase: the authorial one “Parti do Alto” and a reinterpretation of “Ela” as a tribute to Elis Regina who redorded the song 50 years ago. Her first works as a solo artist have been acclaimed by the public and the critics. “My Voice and I” is a dialogue between the voice, the distortion, the melody and technology; it strolls through beats, acoustic and electric guitar with an authorial repertoire mixed with traditional Brazilian music, including iconic songs by Gonzaguinha, Caymmi, Gal Costa, Luiz Melodia and Tom Jobim. Assucena says the show brings her musical intimacy, after a research on timbre and sensitive expressions of her voice. “My voice is a concrete and ethereal metaphor of my freedom” she claims. Joined on stage by multi-instrumentalist Rafael Acerbi, also the musical director, the performance explores the potential of the instruments with acoustic and electric guitars distortions and minimalist music. “It’s a show in which I connect with the things I like to listen to, with a couple of songs of my own, repackaged though. We are rearranging everything I have already recorded in order to find new packages for these songs”, explains Assucena.
